Not All Artists are Starving, A Night of Networking - RECAP!

The 2nd Annual "Not All Artists are Starving, A Night of Networking" was a HUGE success!

On March 2nd, 2010, The Hofstra Association of Graphic Arts in association with the Career Center, held the second annual "Not All Artists are Starving, A Night of Networking." The goal was to give students a chance to hear from alumni and professionals who are working artists. Seven speakers, all from varying fields with varying backgrounds, gave students advice and answered questions about how to prepare for the transition from college to the "real world." The night started with an informal panel, followed by mingling, networking, and hors d'eourves. The event was a huge success. Students gained insight and left feeling hopeful, motivated, and inspired.

Quick facts:
  • Presented by the Hofstra Association of Graphic Arts and The Career Center
  • Sponsored by The Fine Arts Department, The Golden Key Honors Society, and The Hofstra Association of Photographic Arts
  • Over 100 attendees

What the students are saying...

"The questions that were asked really helped me to understand more about what it means to be an artist, and the risks one has to be willing to take."

"The variety (of the panel) was terrific and they offered fantastic advice from several different perspectives."

"I got a lot of contacts and another chance to get myself out there!"

"I got some confidence and some ideas for the future. Completely priceless :]"

"I got a good perspective on what to do when it comes to careers, not only just art but everything in general. It was refreshing."

What the speakers are saying...

"The idea of having an event like this is absolutely wonderful to me. As I said during the event, I just wish that they had this while I was a student here at Hofstra U. To be a part of it was a privilege and honor."

"I liked how conversational the panel was; I think it benefited the students that all the panelists were able and willing to continue others' thoughts, comment on them, and even disagree."

"For having run events at Hofstra myself while I was a student there I was taken aback by how well organized and executed the event was! I hope the students were able to gather as much, and I believe they got a lot of information/encouragement/useful insight that will hopefully help them."
